This fast-paced, interactive series helps foundation leaders for social change sharpen their advocacy funding strategies to advance bold policy change at the state and local level. Through presentation, small group breakouts, and planning for actual funding campaigns in the coming years, you will improve your skills around:
Ecosystem Analysis:
- Learn the deep decision-making process in your state capital, and the formal and informal rules governing the legislature.
- Develop skills to map power dynamics in the Capitol, identify the universe of stakeholders, and design system-wide strategies for change;
Anti-Racist Policy Analysis
- Engage in race-forward policy analysis models from Heather McGhee (race/class narrative) and Ibram X. Kendi (anti-racist policy analysis).
- Practice strategies to quantify racial equity outcomes and assess policy amendments from a racial justice framework.
Advocacy Funding Models
- Increase your foundation's capacity to map the organizational infrastructure around specific issues, and navigate a diversity of advocacy funding strategies;
- Develop your skills as a funder to advance advocacy initiatives over a multi-year period.
Format
- Weekly three-hour training session over the course of two months.
- 10-15 person cohort.
- In-person or virtual format, depending on the state.
